Gonna keep it short and sweet because ‘WOW’ and ‘HOLY #$&@’ are the only adjectives I can think of when describing this video.

I wouldn’t say I’m an art critic or relatively knowledgeable in art by any means, but I dig the concept of public art nonetheless. Why? Because it transforms the often dull and dreary cityscape into one which inspires creativity, it encourage us to relook and redesign things, and lastly it spices things up for most of us which are caught in the daily 9-5 grind. That said, the artist should appreciate the magnitude of their work in such settings, as it is overtly visible to so many.

I stumbled across this piece by Henk Hofstra dubbed Art Eggcident on display in one of Leeuwaarden’s public city squares and instantly loved it. The 100 foot wide eggs will be on display in one of the Netherland’s largest city squares for the next 6 months. Sure it’s a little weird, but as long as it’s not vulgar then I’m cool with it.

Similarly, Hofstra transformed the cityscape in Drachten, Holland last year with the Blue Road. Hofstra wanted Blue Road to be visible on Google Earth - it still hasn’t shown up yet. Again, another cool concept but this time it’s a little too vulgar. The project cost 75,000 euros and consumed 4000 litres of paint. It’s kind of cool, but definitely not something I would want to see looking out my front window.
