Pemberton: Le apertif

It’s been one hell of a busy week lately, but busy is always good. Ch3rk kicked off the weekend with a nutso dance party at Republic in celebration of the holy one’s (himself) birthday. Needless to say, we mastered the ancient art of d-floor thunderclapping and shimmying. Thank you Ch3rk for the bonne time.

May 24 weekend was up at Pemberton this year. Having never been, I salivated at the beauty of the place - sun-drenched lakes surrounded by snow-capped mountains - in what would be my apertif to the Pemberton Festival. The setting is perfect for what’s going to be this summers nuttiest noche.

That said, lots of peeps are getting their nickers in knots about camping situations. I get that 3 nights of booze, boogie, and Allah knows what else (heh) will get nasty quickly - but isn’t that the point of a festival? You didn’t buy tickets to three concerts in a row, you bought tickets to a festival. To be festive and camp. Of course RCMP detaché will be oh so generous enough to offer DUIs free of charge if you wanna join the princesses who plan on staying at Whistler and driving back and forth every night.

MyHab.com is a company which specializes in festival accomodation. These festival tents are installed by the company and are available for rent for a reasonable fee. How perfect is that? Only problem is that they won’t be servicing Pemberton this year. Hopefully the good peeps at Pemberton set something up for future years.

I gotta get back to work, but seeing as thoughts of Pemberton have surely got your spitting old Jay-Z rhymes through your drooling excitement, I figure I’d carry you through the weekend with a couple heuvs that pack heat like the oven door (thanks Jay).

Here’s the past week’s heaters. This week’s remix is a toss up between Yuksek’s Graveyard Girl and MSTRKRFT’s Love in this Club. The Yuksek mix is pretty nice, but I’m leaning on MSTRKRFT for transforming an Usher track from zeek (zero+geek) to deathly chic.

Crookers - Love to Edit

Cut Copy - Hearts on Fire (Midnight Juggernauts remix)

Juliette Lewis & The Licks - Got Love to Kill (MSTRKRFT remix)

Late of the Pier - Space and the Woods (Switch remix)

M83 - Graveyard Girl (Yuksek remix)

Usher - Love in this Club (MSTRKRFT remix)

By the way - I don’t like fishing but it seems we need to drop a post on blog courtesy, and why gobbling tracks + bandwidth without commenting makes you sub-cool.

    1) Funny how you post this the very day my Euro-trip gets cancelled and Pemberton gets confirmed.

    2) 3 days without a shower is going to be tough work for a brown man.

    3) Thank you for posting that Yuksek track. I always try and put people onto Yuksek, but when it comes to Parisian electro artists, it seems like people stop listening after you mention Daft Punk and Justice.

    4) MSTRKRFT is God.

  4. Hugo Says:

wow, that mstrkrft remix of the licks sounds nothing like their remix of 2 more years by bloc party does it? their old stuff was consistently good. the new stuff just sounds like it’s just about the cash. lame.

  5. Hugo Says:

Oh and listen to “My Love Needs You” by “Beni” and then listen to that Crookers track again. Me thinks…..

crookers, right now, can’t do shit wrong!

    thanks again!

  8. Kevin Says:

Thanks for the Urrsh remix. If not for MSTRKRFT, I’d never know what Top 40 songs would sound like filtered through the Basement Jaxx and a Nintendo.

What would make me happiest: MSTRKRFT + Lil Jon + Kellz (post-not guilty verdict) - golden shower + Kid Sis + video involving Muppets - Elmo

That Switch remix is crazy awesome, same goes for the Midnight Juggernauts one. Cut Copy are a great band to re-edit, and this mix is so haunting! Thanks for a new listen, it tingled my ears.
