Two years ago this time I went to Thailand for what was probably the best trip of my life. That place is unbelievable. Sure it’s getting a little played out and just about everyone has the exact same facebook album up from their trip, but there’s a damned good reason why so many people keep going and going. Anyways, a fatty chunk of our trip was planned around the Full Moon Party, the famous monthly rave on Koh Phangan which is a staple of anyone’s trip with half a case of the boogie.
Pulling up to Haad Riin in our longboat that night, hearing the d&b basslines get increasingly louder, I think we all new that night would be one of the nuttiest thus far. I can’t really do that party justice on a blog post, so let me just say that 24 hours later, the Full Moon Party had not only fulfilled but blown my expectations away.
That’s why I salivated when I heard that the Crookers would be spinning at the Full Moon the following year. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it out there again, but there are enough videos floating around YouTube for one to imagine the glory of the night. Anyways, in my opinion the Crookers are one of the most consistent, bamboo bangin’ electro duos to hit to the tables. It’s no surprise they absolutely murdered the 2007 party from a sky platform on the beach.
The video’s not the greatest, but you get a feel of the vibe and glory that is both Full Moon and Crookers. Even hotter is incorporating the sky platform.. wow.
Now I like the Crookers, but everyone’s got their mentors and inspirators (word?), and it looks like we both look up to the same godfathers of dance. So before we give praise for the sky platform we should pay homage to the grandwizards of electro, Snap! Now these cats dropped one of my favourite guilty pleasures back in 1992, which I used watch on repeat on one of Englands 5 channels at the time while visiting my cousin in London. By now you’ve probably guessed that I’m serious as cancer when I say Rhythm is a Dancer!
Not to be hated or slept on. 15 years later and still banging. SNAP!
